We have countless bridges in the world and some of them are rising like a tower over the water. In this post, I like to share top 10 tallest bridge available in our planet. Some people admires the beauty and others are always trying to find a way to jump from it to find a rush adrenaline.
10. THE VERRAZANO-NARROWS BRIDGE
The Verrazano is named after the legendary Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazano. It stands 693 feet high and the longest span is 4,260 feet or 1,298 meters. The building was started to be built in 1964 and finished in 1981. In the world, it is the biggest suspension bridge ever built. It connects Brooklyn and Staten Island in New York and has been an important part of New York history in the past 50 years.
LE PONT DE NORMANDIE is built in France and spanning 2800 feet long and standing 165 feet high. It connects Honfleur and Le Havre on the Siene River. The construction took US$465 million dollar and the bridge has a World’s record as the 2nd longest cable-stayed bridge after the Tartara Bridge in Hiroshima that was built in 1998. It is the longest suspension bridge in Europe of course.
8. PENANG BRIDGE
Penang Bridge is another construction wonder in Malaysia after the Petronas towers. Local people call the bridge JAMBATAN PULAU PENANG. This bridge is standing 101.5 m high and spanning 13.5 km in total. The bridge is linking Malaysia mainland with Gelugor in Penang Island. The construction, include the concept, was running over 4 decades. It was opened in 1985 and today, it served 70,000 Malaysians daily.
7. TATARA BRIDGE
Tatara Bridge connects Honshu and Shikoku Islands in Japan and it stands over Seto Inland Sea. Tatara Bridge is raised with 220 meters steel towers and the longest span is 890 meter long. The Bridge was opened since 1999 and embedded with Mishieto Expressway. The construction took 6 years and designed to withstand any shake from the earthquake below.
6. THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE
Golden Gate Bridge is standing over San Francisco bay since 1937. It links San Francisco and Marin county and it stands 227.4 meters from the submerge area of the Pacific Ocean. The longest span is 4,200 feet and the bridge is an important vein for the city and surrounded areas include California.
5. THE GREAT BELT FIXED LINK
The Great belt is a road suspension bridge plus a railway tunnel links Danish islands of Zealand and Funen over the Great Belt. The height is 254 meters and it is spanning 1.624 km long, make it the 3rd longest suspension bridge after the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge and Xihoumen Bridge. Total cost to make the bridge standing strong is 21.4 billion Danish Krone
4. NEW RIVER GORGE BRIDGE
New River Gorge Bridge is a steel-arch construction bridge located in Fayettteville, West Virginia. It serves public traffic since 1977.it rises 267 meters above the New River and spans across CSX transportation railroad. In America, the bridge is known as the 2nd highest vehicular steel bridge in US after Mike O’Callaghan – Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge and 5th highest bridge in the world.
3. Akashi Kaikyō Bridge
The Akashi Kaikyō Bridge or Pearl Bridge is rising 298.3 meters over the Akashi strait and it links the city of Kobe on Honshu Mainland and Iwaya at Awaji Island. The construction is completed in 1998 and it crosses Akashi Strait 3,911 meters away

Royal Gorge Bridge is rising 321 meters over the Arkansas Rive. Among all Suspension bridges in US, Gorge Bridge is the highest. The bridge is constructed near Canon city, Colorado and it stretches 384 meter away. The bridge is used since 1929. It used to be the highest Bridge in the world before MILLAU VIADUCT was built.

MILLAU VIADUCT is the highest cable-stayed Road Bridge in France, Europe and the rest of the world. The bridge is rising 343 meters high and it makes the bridge is little taller than Eiffel tower and bit shorter than Empire State building. It was officially opened in 2004 by former France President, Jacque Chirac. So far, It has impossible to find any bridge taller than the 1st rank tallest bridge in the world.
