Muhammad Yusuf Mashizan, with mother Noorazila Jaafar, needs RM50,000 for his operation

The families of three children are appealing for donations to enable them to undergo corrective heart surgeries.Six-week-old Nurin Ariana Arisya Mohammad Khairi suffers from a complex congenital heart disease called transposition of the great arteries (TGA), associated with a small ventricular septal defect (VSD), a small atrial septal defect (ASD) and moderate pulmonary stenosis (PS).

She has a prior balloon atrial septostomy (BAS) to improve her oxygenation. However, the underlying diagnosis of TGA, ASD, VSD and PS has yet to be addressed.

The child also has mild-moderate pulmonary stenosis.

The best option is for an arterial switch operation together with a pulmonary valvotomy, which costs between RM45,000 and RM50,000.

Her father, Muhammad Khairi Mohd Khalil, 21, works as a cashier in an Internet cafe in Bukit Mertajam and earns RM900 monthly. Her mother, Nur Haslinda Muhamed Idham, 19, is a housewife.

Two-month-old Muhammad Yusuf Mashizan has TGA, associated with a ventricular septal defect and patent ductus arteriosus (PDA).

He was born premature at 34 weeks with a low birth weight of 1.7kg.

He needs an arterial switch operation, together with the repair of the VSD and PDA, a surgery costing about RM50,000.

His father, Mashizan Alizaini, 30, a mechanic in Alor Star, earns RM1,000 monthly, and his mother, Noorazila Jaafar, 31, is a housewife.

Two-month-old Nurul Fatin Nasuha Abdullah suffers from patent ductus arteriosus with heart failure and pneumonia and needs RM18,000 to correct her heart defect.

Her father died in a road accident last June and her mother, Siti Roslinda Shukri, 23, is a housewife.

The family depends on aid from Nurul Fatin's uncle, a security guard in Alor Star.

Those who wish to help the children can send cheques, made payable to the New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, with the names of the child or children written on the reverse to: The Cashier, Finance Department / Charity Unit, New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, 31 Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur.
